What happened in NZ this week?
Friday, 20 June 2008
OK, so one of the primary reasons for coming back to NZ was for friends weddings. Now that they are out of the way, the secondary task moves into pole position - acquire UK visa.
Whilst the waiting commences (4-7 weeks according to the helpful staff and the High Commission's website) we can do little but ponder the next steps and enjoy life back in NZ. So what's been going on this week?
- Crime in South Auckland is growing at a great rate of knots. Three stories in the news this week. Pressure on the government to put plans in place to make NZ a safe place
- All Blacks spanked the English in the first test (37-20). Drama has now erupted for the second test with English players accused of naughty behaviour post game, and the ABs coaches under fire for their rotation policy coming into effect for the second test
- Cheese and eggs are now luxury items, as prices of basic food goods continue to rise. Don't even ask about petrol
- Dr Ropata is back on Shortland Street - make it stop!
Let's hope that visa comes through soon...

Welcome back sun

Stoked! The big yellow is out now bring on the tan. Rarotonga is where Ben and Kat got hitched, and this island paradise was ideal to welcome in 'The Morgans'.
Although a bit tired from the Ketchen's shin dig, the warmer climate quickly revived us. Armed with good weather and our trusty steed, scooter, we were well set for the the second wedding of the trip.
After a few days of exploring the island, hanging with old friends, meeting new friends and enjoying the fresh seafood, the big day soon rolled around. Like the previous wedding, the weather came right for the big occasion, and again the wedding party looked the part (especially bridesmaid and groomsman number three - oh and the bride and groom of course).
Needless to say, the day went without a hitch and the party went well into the next morning thanks to our trusty friends - beer and wine.
All in all, two great weddings for two great couples.

Nice day for a white wedding

OK, so maybe Billy Idol was onto something. Queenstown provided the ideal backdrop for Mike and Lauren to tie the knot - there was even snow. Spectacular scenery aside, and the usual four seasons in one day, the day couldn't have gone any better for these two kids who finally got to celebrate their love in style in front of family and friends.
The bride and bridesmaids looked gorgeous and the groom scrubbed up pretty good as well.
It was great to catch up with old friends, and there was no holding back the celebrations despite the early flight the next morning for round two of the weddings.
